My new Yotaphone 2 has well arrived from China. I immediately tried to refresh to Android 5.0.

Well, it is not possible, at least not on the easy way, with just some clicks. I learnt from Yoga’s support that there are two types of Y2, the YT-201 and the YT-206.

  • YT-201
    • the original, International Version
    • it is covered by Yotsphone’s international warranty
    • it can easily be upgraded to  Android 5.0 (Lollipop) from 4.4.3 (KitKat)
    • International communication module
    • clock widget is available for YotaCover
  • YT-206
    • Chinese Version
    • the warranty is valid only in China
    • the Android cannot be upgraded (well, at least not via the normal, simple way) from 4.4.3 (KitKat)
    • the communication module is specialised for China
    • no clock widget for YotaCover

Out of China, like in Europe or in the USA, one might experience trouble with the 3G or 4G.i

YD-206 Yotaphone 2 will 3G 4G work in Europe?

If ever you have any trouble Yota Support suggests you to talk to your network provider, or try to find one who offers the appropriate services.

YD201 (International):

  • WCDMA, DC HSDPA (rel. 8, cat. 24)

  • LTE (rel. 9, cat 4) bands 3, 7 and 20
    • LTE B1 (2100)
    • LTE B41 (TD 2500)

YD206 (Chinese):

  • GSM/EGPRS 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz
  • WCDMA, DC HSDPA (rel. 8, cat. 24),
  • HSUPA (rel. 7, cat 7) B1 (diversity), B2, B5, B8

I have copied here the above network names and codes without understanding there meanings. It’s all Greek (better to say: Chinese) to me.
